A good way to implement this is to use a responsive layout which adjusts the layout according to the users screen size. You also want to ensure that all images are able to be expanded, as it can be difficult to see the full detail of an image on a small screen which could lead to frustration. 

Another technique is the use of push notifications. It is mostly applicable to mobile games, but can be useful for other apps too. It can draw attention to in-app events or promotions which can help to drive sales. If a game has cooldowns for certain actions, a notification could be used to alert the player that the ability is available again to pull them back into the game.
