Three Web Marketing Techniques

AIDA is a good overall technique for marketing, as it can be applied to anything you are doing to promote a product. It is an acronym which stands for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action. You want to include all of these steps in your marketing technique to have the best chance at success. "It's often said that if your marketing or advertising is missing just one of the four AIDA steps, it will fail and it will fail hard."(Kosaka, n.d.) You want to grab the Attention of potential customers, pique their Interest, give them the Desire for something and make them take Action on this desire.

Another good marketing technique is display media advertising. This is usually in the form of ads of some kind, such as on a website or in a mobile app. As the user doesn't choose to see these, you need to be careful at how you present them to avoid negative responses to these ads. For one, you must use your target market research to tailor these ads to the correct kind of users, so they are more likely to accept the ads presence. The goal of these ads doesn't necessarily have to be to get clicks, it could be to build brand awareness by making potential consumers aware that your product exists, which increases the effectiveness of other, more direct marketing techniques.

Another form of marketing is content marketing, which aims to keep the interest of existing customers by providing interesting content outside of the game. A perfect example of this is the Meet the Team videos for Team Fortress 2 - they are hugely entertaining for new and often times makes people like the game more than they already do. It also helps to build a better relationship between the devs and consumers, as it show that the devs care more about just making money from the sales of their game (or in TF2's case, item sales.)
